On Saturday, September 30th Yoga Phénix in Ormstown welcomed the public to a bustling open house that launched the brand new yoga studio. The recently renovated facility is the passion project of brothers Brett and Derek Bohemen, and a welcome addition for those looking to practice yoga in a fully equipped locale entirely dedicated to yoga.

The center will hold classes in a range of styles and will be staffed by local teachers Jennifer Lambel, Jeannie O’Connor, and Julie Gergely. Starting the first week of October 2017, seven classes geared to all levels will be offered each week at 37 Lambton Street in Ormstown.

Brett Bohemen was inspired to transform the space into a yoga studio after studying natural medicine, as well as traveling to India, where he learned about the many benefits of yoga. While he had practiced yoga in Ormstown with local teachers and enjoyed the classes, he felt the area was missing a dedicated studio. “The last time I did a yoga class locally, I was crammed in next to a film projector,” he explains. He has also travelled to the West Island specifically to practice hot yoga—which Yoga Phénix will be offering. “It takes multiple hours out of your day to travel there and back and after sitting in a car on the way home, you’ve kind of tensed up and defeated some of the purpose.”

Brett and Derek grew up on a farm near Ormstown and have pursued careers in carpentry and plumbing respectively. They did most of the work on the studio themselves with the intention to make it as excellent as possible. The studio boasts heated epoxy floors, wall length mirrors, showers and a pristine, uplifting ambiance. The six styles currently offered are: Hatha, Gentle, Core, Gentle Chair, Hatha Flow and Intro to Yoga. The classes are directed to seasoned practitioners as well as total beginners, such as Chair Yoga geared to those who may not be comfortable getting down on a mat.

The Bohemen brothers were thrilled with the turnout at the open house that included local holistic practitioners welcoming them to the community and Stéphane Billette in attendance. For more information search @YogaPhénix on Facebook or visit www.YogaPhé
